The National Policy of Education of 1986 has been replaced by the Government of India's New Education Policy, the first in 34 years. The Ministry of Human Resource and Development was renamed the Ministry of Education, and several other changes were made to the Indian educational system as a result of the new strategy. In order to develop a new system that is in line with the aspirational aims of education in the twenty-first century, the NEP suggests revising and overhauling the educational framework, including its governance and rules and regulations. The strategy attempts to close the gap between education and technology while concentrating on different aspects of education. The choice to use mother tongue or a regional language as the primary language of teaching up to Class 5 is one of the main features of NEP 2020. Additionally, the policy highlights the importance of formative assessments and promotes a peer-reviewed assessment system by establishing a National Assessment Center and creating tools like Performance Assessment Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development to track learning outcomes and direct educational boards to modernize and adapt instruction to future demands. The primary features of NEP 2020 include the creation of the Higher Education Commission of India, which would ultimately take the role of current regulatory agencies such as the AICTE or UGC and establish a unified regulation for higher education institutions. By addressing the many deficiencies in India's educational system, the NEP 2020 strategy is anticipated to help the country meet the Sustainable Development Goals of 2030 by guaranteeing inclusive, egalitarian, and high-quality education.
